I bought my granddson a Nikon D5100 camera and he has managed to "lose/misplace" two battery chargers, I'm not inclined to get him another new one, unless any of the non Nikon brands are safe to buy, I have heard of ' cheaper" chargers going up in flames, anyone have any thoughts or experience in non brand chargers? Thanks in advance.

A nice and generous granddad you are too buying him the camera in the first place.

You don't say (and I don't expect you to say) how old he is but maybe this time give him 1/3 of the Nikon cost telling him 'gently' that as he will be contributing to the price of the third one.......you hope he will be more careful as to how he looks after his stuff ;)

I use third party batteries and chargers for all my cameras and have never had an issue..

I bought one of these for away-from-base travel.
Runs from a 5v phone charger.
Seems to do as its told.
They are generic & have lots of different 'manufacturers' names on.

Thanks guys, the Neewer looks interesting, I'll check it out. I bought him the camera for use in his university course, unfortunately he hasn't been able to get a job yet, at least not in one he studied for.

To lose TWO chargers, he must be off his head. Or his core attentions are elsewhere ... ;). But seriously, I think you're spoiling him & he needs to pull his pants up by himself.
