I have a Nikon AF-S lens with VR and the VR stopped working intermittently. I tried numerous ways of getting it to work a bit more consistently and have found a temporary fix.
With the lens on the camera and the camera Off I simply hold the shutter button down and switch the camera On, it takes the shot and the VR then works perfectly.
I just have to ensure that I do not simply switch the camera Off and On again. The fix has been working daily for a few weeks now so if anyone else has a problem with VR working inconsistently it may be worth a try.
