I'm trying to add to my flash collection to take on more ambitious projects, and started wondering if current products, e.g. Nikon SB600, that might be a few years old (used) would run the same firmware as a new unit?

Also, what would be the main differences between say, a Nissin Di622 MkII unit (supposed to be TTL) and a lesser Nikon unit (e.g. SB600)? Also, why would I want to buy a bigger Nissin, e.g. Di866 as opposed to an SB800, other than cost (which is a good enough reason...)?

At the moment I have an SB600, and a Yongnuo YN560 (optical slave). I'm thinking at add one more of each, but looking at options. This is all for indoor use, at the moment.
