I have a Nikon F Apollo but I can't get the meter to read correctly, when you press the button to activate it the needle moves indicating the battery has power but I can't get the needle to centre, altering the shutter speed or aperture has no effect on the position of the needle.

I haven't tried a film in it yet, any suggestions :)

Might be a silly question but are you using a Nikon AIs lens, the one with the "rabbit ears" on it?

Usually what you do is set the lens to f5.6 then stick it on rotate it till a "bar" enges with the rabbit ears, then the meter should work.

check:

http://www.mir.SPAM/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/michaeliu/cameras/nikonf/index.htm

this site out as it has loads of images and help on using the older Nikons.

If you are using the newer Nikon lens like the, AF ones, then the meter will not work because the lens can't engage with the metering head.

I used to have Nikon F (Apollo with out the meter) and it was a great camera, wish I had not traded it ~sigh~

Yes it has a F2 AIs with the ears which are connected to the FTn, looks like I have some reading to do, thanks

Cds cell is proberbly worn out, very hard to get them reapared, go for a plain prism and a light meter :)

I think you're right, i've tried altering the asa, shutter speed and aperture and the needle stays in the same place regardless of where you point the camera :(
