Has anyone used the Nikon ES 2 which effectively uses the D850, (or similar), to "photograph" the slide or negative

The results, i.e the large MB files created, seem to be of a good standard, quicker and maybe of a better quality than say a dedicated scanner or flat bed???

OK ideally you also need the 60mm Nikon micro, so it's quite an expensive set up if you don't have a lens

I have the D850 and I have the 60mm micro, but I'm still waiting for a used ES2 to come up at the right price - I don't think they're worth the 'new' price and as I only want it to clear my backlog of negatives, I'll then sell it on again.

If I can't pick a used one up within a few months though, I supposed I'll have to get a new one and make a loss when I sell it.

Park are awaiting stock but at £149 which is cheaper than buying from Japan and cheaper than any of the 2ndhand ES2's on ebay. If I was after one I'd buy one from Park and wait for them to get in stock, supposedly from today.

Yep - mine is "on order" from Park - they said "due in today" but I'm waiting to be pleasantly surprised - I'm at the ready having "dusted" off my negatives

Park - availability - now changed to 3 Sept on their web site

I cancelled my order with Park and got one from Camera World - came next day, this morning

Pretty good - I'd say - just done a few 50 year old FujiFilm slides, so need to figure out the correct settings etc., - but I'm quite pleased with my first few quick efforts - maybe we could start a thread to compare settings and tips, etc.

I used a small, credit card size, Aputure light behind the slide - so this is copied at 1/60th sec @ f/5 and ISO 220

not digital quality - but not bad?

NEGATIVES - seem a bit inconsistent - some are much better than others and WB seems strange on some - (processing both in the D850 and in LR and not processing in the D850, just taking a shot of the negative and processing in LR)

but it's early days as I have had only a couple of hours at it!!!!

This negative was from cheap un-named film - (which I bet I now come to regret!!)

I got one new at the start of the pandemic lockdown to digitise old film going all the way back to 1980s.
I also do not feel its worth the new price but I was stuck at home with not much photography happening so I decided to just buy it new and save some time.
I still have it and might eventually sell it on.

It works with a bunch of lenses, I used with laowa 100mm f2.8, AF-S60/2.8 and AF-D60/2.8 all adapted onto a Sony e-mount body. Also works with Sony FE 50mm f2.8 macro lens.

Useful piece of kit for digitising film but overpriced for what it is.

I paid £149 + £4 delivery

I'm quite pleased so far - obviously it's time consuming

Here's my old MG TF - shot must have been taken at least 15 years ago - it's still on the road as a friend of mine bought it from me

It would have been taken with a Canon A1 - looks like "Bonus Print" "free" film
