Looking to buy DSLR, I had my heart set on a 650d to use with the <£400 100mm F2 Canon prime. Spent days looking at images this lens produces and was in awe, with it being rated slightly below the expensive 135/2L

However I have managed to snag a used low shutter count D700.

I am looking for the Nikon equivalent but cant find one... cheapest seems to be the 105mm DC which is still 3x the price.

Any ideas please?!

Seen some Nikon 105mm f/2.8 VR lenses go used for about £450 quid a nice sharp lens. You could always look at a Nikon 85mm f/1.8 or are you specifically after a 100mm/135mm focal length? The classic manual focus Nikon 105mm f/2.5 might be worth a look for its rendering.

With the crop factor of the 650D you're getting an effective focal length (with the 100mm f/2) of 160mm... you need to be looking around that length on the D700 to replicate field of view... what about a nikon 180mm? Very nice piece of kit and good value on the used market for an f/2.8 prime...

Ah I didn't see the 650D part!

Yep, get the 180mm. They're great.

What about the Siggy 150mm Macro lens as well?

or get a 105DC F2.0 :)

there is one for sale
but as others said, you might to look for something longer...

If you can live with manual focus, the 105 f2.5 AiS Nikkor can be picked up used for around £200.

Great lens and not hard to focus, can also be had for much less nowadays (under £130).

The 180mm 2.8 is also a great lens, something special about the images it produces, bitterly regret selling my mint copy :(

I'd go with this or if it's just about results and dreamy background blur and weight isn't an issue, then a 70-200 2.8 might be an option. It might not be quite as wide aperture but counters by being longer and more flexible (no sniggering please :) ). A sigma one or an older Nikon 80-200 can be had for reasonable money and will deliver the results.
