can anyone recommend a Nikon DSLR for under £400 for action shots ie airshows , bif , etc this will be a second camera so doesn’t have to be a a newish model as long as good auto focus for the subjects I mentioned, thanks

I don't really get what you're after, Dean!

The D800 is not of the newest bodies but it can perform very
well in the given tasks… if you're set-up is appropriate that is.

For that budget ... a D7100 is likely your best bet.

There are none good for that under 400. The d7100 has a tiny buffer, the d7200 is over budget, the d5000 series FPS is rubbish as you put it.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking although the FPS is better is the autofocus any better that the D800

well 33 frames if shot in JPEG

It is the time you want to use RAW the most when you are shooting into a bright sky with darker objects in airshows and BIF. ?

True, but at a budget of £400 then you have to compromise somewhere!

I'd say a D300s, think I saw one in classifieds for half your budget too.

Yeah I was thinking of the D300S but it’s only 12 mega pixels would that make a lot of difference in image IQ

I have a D7100 and think under £400 they are a great buy. I found the buffer issue helped by using an SD Card with a higher write speed. I shoot Wildlife mainly (Usually Fine) and found it can fire off around 20 shots at 6fps before it starts to choke. I didn't mess around with the settings trying to achieve 7fps as the trade off in quality isn't worth it IMO :)

D300 (or S), still got one as backup, yes, fine for most prints, unless you are talking 5ft x 5ft! DX so 1.5 crop, fast enough for airshows (I normally just shot CL not CH)
