Hey guys,
I have found a d80 for around £350 (i dont think it comes with a lens) in "as new condition"
Just wondering if anyones had any experience with them etc.

Also, whats the main diferences between the d80 and a d50?

The main difference is 10mp on the D80 v 6mp on the D50. The D80 body is also slightly bigger than the D50 with a better grip and a front command wheel.

At £350 for a secondhand one though I think I'd rather spend another £50 and get a similar condition D200...
 
You will pick up a D50 for half that price and it may even come with a lens too.
Thats what I started on and it a great camera.
Maybe a little old but better than the D40 or the 60.
Purely because it has inbuilt motor in the body.
So you not limited on the lens.
D80 is newer but again it sort of been replaced by the D90.
It all depends on what you wanna do with it.
 
Hmm ok then. Really i am kinda new to it all. I have been using my brothers D50 for the past year (not used it alot) but i really wanted my own camera. So i bought a mated Canon 300D a few months ago, BUT i just dont like it. So im wanting to sell that (for around £170 odd with acesories), and maybe put some £ towards a new camera.

Problem is - as ever ££££££
Dont want to spend too much, but i do want the best i can get for my money. Maybe around £400 ish?
 
Given the choice I'd go for another D50 (I've had two of them and a D80) in preference to a D80 at twice the price. I'm sure there was a low mileage D50 with a couple of lenses for not much over £200 on the TP sales forum recently.....
 
Yeah i saw that go for £200 :( Ha

D40 and D60 are definatly out of the question due to the autofocus

Where would the d200 come in order? Above the d80/d90?
 
The D200is the "semi-pro" version of the D80 - it has the same sensor as the D80, but in a tougher (and heavier) magnesium body.
 
Well, personally speaking, I really like the D80 that I've got. Pictures come out quite nicely and all.

But looking at the fact that the only reason you discounted the D60/D40 line was due to the automotor and are stuck for cash and going the D200 or D90 route might be expensive, then it really boils down to the D80 or D50.

As much as I love the D80, I say go with the D50 and invest the rest in a lens.
 
I'd agree with this ^^^. The difference in price is enough to get the Nikon 18-70 F/3.5-4.5G AF-S DX, which by all accounts is a fantastic lens. I had the D50 before my D700, and I also had the 18-70 on it as well. Excellent combination.

Sure the D80 probably has slightly better ISO noise handling, and the front command dial, and indeed more in body controls (admittedly, these were some of the aspects that made me upgrade), but for the price, the D50 is an excellent camera, and perfectly capable of taking most things you can throw at it.
