Hi everyone.
I have a question which I could do with some help with.
When looking to purchase new lenses for my D80 if I just buy the standard AF versions will they
a) autofocus on my camera
b) not work on my camera
c) will work but I will need to focus manually

The specific lens I am talking about is the 70-300 f4-5.6. - There is an AF-S version that is about £400 or a plain AF version for £100.

Is there a site that perhaps tells me what lenses might be compatible as I also don't want to limit myself just to looking just at the Nikkor lenses.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!:)

should be a chart in the back of the camera manual

or Ken Rockwell site (c) "here"

As far as I no the D80 will work fine with all Nikons AF lenses pal

The D80 has a built-in motor so either AF or AF-S (the ones with their own motors) will work fine. The 70-300 VR is superior in every way to the non-vr model. It's not just the cheap lens with the addition of a motor, but a completely different one altogether.

Thanks very much gentlemen. You have been very helpful!
And I suppose it's much the same as with anything, you gets what you pays for. Kicking myself for missing bidding on the AFS version on ebay earlier. Just over a ton and no bidders!
Ah well, now to bide my time and save my pennies.
Thanks again.
