Nikon D80 Flash Advice

Hi folks.
Looking for a decent flash at a reasonable price for my D80.
Any advice ?

If you want to get the most out of the Nikon D80 with an additional flash then you only have 2 choices the SB600 (~£200) and SB800 (~£250). Both can act as wireless slaves with the onboard flash as "commander" and will give full iTTL feed back to make flash photography easy.

However, I suspect that you don't consider either of these reasonably priced.

What I will say is that if you are likely to stay with the Nikon system for some time the SB600 or SB800 will remain compatible with your future cameras and be as useful in the future as is now, so if you see your kit as an investment in your hobby then going for either now will be better in the long run.

I personally have the SB600 and am happy with it although there are times I think it would have been better if I had spent the extra £50 on the SB800 as it is a bit more powerful, has the option of an external battery pack and has a flash sync socket to allow you to connect your D80 to a wired studio flash setup.

Sorry, i should have mentioned what i thought was a reasonable price. Around 150-175 is what i can afford.
I have a friend heading over to Hong Kong tomorrow so it should be a little cheaper over there.
Is there much of a difference in quality between a Sigma and a Nikon flash?

I doubt it, what you're really looking for is compatibility - I know the Nikon flash is fully functional with my Nikon camera; I'd have to go check, read up on any non-Nikon ones

There's a supplier on this site now offering an SB-800 for only £189, I may even buy one myself at that rate!

There are Simgas that are fully compatible with the D80 when attached to the hot shoe but only the Nikon SB600 or SB800 ability to go remote if you wish.

As DiddyDave said the SB600 is within your price range. If you can find a SB800 in your price range I would go for that.

thanks for that dd, no wonder i couldnt find it

its staring me in the face! :bonk: as much as i like my sb 600 i do miss a repeating flash facility.
 
Definitely get a Nikon, wireless flash with the D80 is fantastic.
 
Another vote for the SB600. One thing to take into consideration is the recycle time and amount of flashes per charge is better on the cheaper SB600, compared to the SB800.

Defiantly get a Nikon flash, CLS is fantastic :thumbs:
 
Just bought a second SB800 from Kerso £203 delivered - arrived next day. Fantastic piece of kit I that wouldn't be without....
 
I got my SB600 for $200 - £100 from Calumet San Francisco if you know anyone visiting the states. Cracking bit of kit - can't fault it.
