I was wondering if anyone has the same issue as me with my D7200 and 300 f4. If I am doing BIF and loose the bird the lens hunts then the AF locks up and I need to turn the focus ring point the lens at something close and it autofocuses again. It only does it with the D7200 as I have tried it with a D300 and D4 and both are fine. I can reproduce the problem just by pointing at the sky trying to focus and it locked up. It only does it with the 300 f4 af-s non PF with and without converters.

Didn't use the older 300 f4 with my D7200 but I have never experienced lock-up with any lens I had attached and there have been quite a few ... how old is the D7200?

Unfortunately old enough to be out of warranty, I got the 300 f4 as a light weight walk around lens with the D7200 for wildlife and its great but for the lock up. not a insurmountable issue but a bit annoying.

I have a D7200 if you want to try and problem solve with me. What focus mode do you have it in, can you give me a little more detail?
AF-C single point or D9 although it does it in all focus modes.

Just the 300 F4 all the others work fine. Its a bit weird.

could it be firmware related? is your kit on the latest versions.

Updated it on the 7th when the new firmware came out, no difference. Just going to have to live with it for now.

All contacts have been cleaned. The lens works fine on my two other bodies, it's only the combination of the one lens and the D7200. As I said it's weird.
