Iv tried jessops and have been declined even though I have an income of 700+, Been in the job 4 months now and have been a perm staff member..

Can anyone advise any websites I can get it on finance?

How long do you plan on taking to pay it off?

Lots of credit cards out there offer 0% for 9-12 months. Have a gawk on money saving expert.

Note: this is not a good idea if you're going to take longer than the interest free period to repay it, as credit cards generally have a very high interest rate compared to a more conventional loan or HP agreement.

It's a Jessops thing. I had the same problem for no apparent reason. I looked into it and found that they use V12 finance which have a different credit scoring standard to other retailers. The same weekend after being declined I went to PC world and got it no problem. Fortunately my local PC World has an extensive Camera department and an in house Canon technical representative. There are lots of stories on the net about Jessops finance so don't be disheartened.

Also, if you're concerned as to why you failed the credit check, you can check your credit report online for just £2. Try Experian and Equifax. There may be an error on there, eg a late payment that wasn't your fault (happened to me when Orange took the wrong bank account details, and didn't get their payment on time for my phone bill), which you can correct.

Don't be tempted to go for the more expensive reports, the basic £2 has all the information you need and they're legally obliged to provide it by law, but you might have to do a little digging on their website to find it.

For a more complete picture of your credit history, you might want to get a report from both agencies as it's likely they'll hold different info on you.

If I remember rightly when probing I found that V12 don't use Equifax or Experian, they use something else. Maybe I am being cynical but I read a post once that suggested people tend to fail the checks on the least interest bearing (less profitable) financing.

So in reality they only want people on finance who are "well off"?

Or maybe those who take 6months interest free but are likely not to settle at end of 6 months. Thus going onto a higher rate of interest than their standard 19.9% . Maybe

I'm by no means well off and I got 12 months interest free on £2600. However, I have been in my current job for 10 years and have a mortgage so maybe those are key factors.

There are only three recognised credit reference agencies in the UK:

- Call Credit
- Experian
- Equifax

So V12 will use one or more of those, as alluded to in the documentation provided on their site:

Is that a PCW employee that knows Canon only has 1 N?

Apologies to all real PCW employees.:)

I have referred back to where I first read about about V12s referencing. They use Call Credit who apparently do not include as many factors as the main two CRAs. This could explain the unusual number of declines in the stores they are providing finance for. I do not know this as fact, only what i read on Martin Lewis' money saving site.

Well in conclusion, I have gone through my trusty old lady and its being paid through her, so its 200 deposit and 100 a month :)

Yeah just about`s, It`ll be worth it in 12 months time :)

And out of date in 6mths like everything else!

Enjoy the camera, I was looking at the 5100 as a second body!

I'm a student with about £100 a month of regular income and got finance from Jessops for my D3 and my 24-70mm.
