Hi all,

I seriously tempted to sell my Nikon D80 camera to purchase a D7000, however I need some advise on the Lens for the D7000 I currently have a DX 18-135mm lens 1:3.5 -5.6g ED. And would like to keep this for the camera.

What I'm not sure about is this Lens good enough for the D7000 /will it work all okay? as I'm on a bit of a budget ideally i dont want to buy a new lens but want a new body

Any advise would be great

cheers

I don't think it is, I have the D7000 and it really excels with better glass, you would get better results with a 17-50/18-50 f2.8

whats the main issue on cheaper glass? soft focus?

Also bearing in mind I'm on a budget what brand would you recommend for the D7000?

The main thing for me is to upgrade the body as its well out of date, however I am on a holiday in november that i would like to take some photos - going to the Falls in Canada/US

I will get better glass in the future, however if the shots woudl be really bad on this lens then I'll change this before teh holiday as well

The 18-135mm is a pretty good lens apart from the amount of CA it produces. It's worth trying it on a D7000 as I haven't seen any reports of that combination. If you don't like the results then get a 16-85mm which does work well with the D7000.

Get the D7000 and take your lens with you but also consider hiring some better glass from http://www.lensesforhire.co.uk/ for your holiday and see how they compare.

It's mainly resolution and sharpness, don't get me wrong your images won't be 'poor' if you use the 18-135, you just won't see as much of an improvement as you should do considering the money you have just paid for the new body.

The two lenses I would recommend for the D7000 are the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 (sigma 18-50 f2.8 is reportedly just as good, one for sale in classifieds for £190) and the Nikon 50mm f1.8. Most people say this lens is too long for the D7000 crop sensor but as a portrait lens it really excels and brings the most out of the sensor

cheers for your input, certainly got me thinking about newer glass, may sell my current one to help fund a new one, not sure yet.

from your list if you could only choose one, which one would you choose?

When I first bought my D7000, I was using the old kit lens I had when I bought my D70- the 18-70. That is a good lens anway, but I bought a Nikon 16-85 and it's streets ahead. It works really well with the 7000. I also use a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 AF-D and a Sigma 105 f/2.8 Macro and have been very pleasantly surprised - especially with the 50mm for the price... but for me, the 16-85 is what I keep on the camera most of the time...

that lens looking at the price will defo be one for the future for me I think

If i do go down the buy a new lens route the budget will be a max of £200 to start with, then i will build a collection

Bought the D7000 today so far well pleased with it on a 18mm-135mm - guy in shop said i should keep hold of the lens as they are not made anymore. I will try and get hold of a another lens to compare...may even buy a new one if i can find a decent price

just bought a Nikon AF-S DX 35mm f1.8G at a stupid cheap price. I'm hoping this is a good purchase
