They had some online earlier.

You couldn't reserve stock for instore purchase though.

I do remember reading somewhere that someone had picked up a 35mm from instore, so definitely worth a go!

there's a PC World and Currys next door to each other I can call in at on the way home... fingers crossed!

the really helpful chap in Currys checked the system and said that the only place there is D700 stock is airports. he thought they might be able to ship one over to my local store, but I'd need to ring up and ask as he wasn't sure.

i guess there's an outside chance they may get more stock into the UK as the 20% deal runs until Wednesday...

Good luck hope you get one

I got my order confirmation this morning , managed to get the D700 + 35mm lens before they sold out.
Cant wait

i'll give them a call in the morning... i knew i should have started my "what do i upgrade to" thread a week earlier! then i'd have bought one today :)

i'm hoping that as the 20% offer is on until Weds, some more stock may become available.

i might wear out the F5 button on my laptop!

I really want to upgrade too but stuck in the same old " rumours suggest the body's due an upgrade soon!" So do I buy from the current market or wait and catch a new product release.

they're back in stock online at dixons / currys / pc world!

but i'd be quick, i can't see them hanging around for long

earliest date they had for £10 guaranteed delivery was Friday 3 June, so looks like they're sourcing in some more stock which will be arriving sometime next week... which i reckon means there won't be any in store for now?

Benners, Snap53, have you been given a delivery date or tracking number for yours? I ask because I got an order confirmation, but no delivery time or number. Just called to ask and was told mine's a "forward order", which means they're waiting for more stock, which I guess means I won't be getting one anyway :(

hiya, I'm afraid that sounds like you're out of luck... mine was delivered this morning

I did get a call from the Currys finance people to confirm/authorise that the transaction... I then got an email with the order confirmation details. I then got an email yesterday to say that delivery with DPD had been arranged and was later sent a tracking number... and it arrived this morning :)

Yep I also got an email from Currys with Order Confirmation and a tracking number with DHL along with estimated delivery date .

Glad you've got/are getting yours. I'm sure you'll both take many great pictures with them and look forward to seeing some.

Understandably I'm a bit miffed that they've sold me something they don't (and likely won't) have, taken a substantial amount of money for it (I got a phone call to verify the transaction too) and weren't going to say anything. Especially after the shenanigans I had to go through to get an order in in the first place. I feel like phoning back and shouting at a manager, but I doubt that'll help anything.

Also I'd hired a 17-35 from LFH to put on it as I'm going to Scotland for a week at the end of the month, guess I should cancel that now.

Anyway, enough of my misery and thread hijacking. Anyone else here order one? (icnoble, you get one?)

So you are leaving Canon?

Re the upgrade, with what has happened in Japan the orignal thoughts for D700 or D3 replacement has been put back considerably. Rumour has it that we will be lucky to see them this year now :(

Depends on your budget, the replacement is likely to be at least £500 more than the price in this thread........

sorry to hear that Silent Bob... might be worth giving them a call to politely ask when they are getting stock in. if it's a week or 2 away, then worth hanging on as it's a great saving.

however, if it's indefinite, then maybe look elsewhere :(

Just an update - the customer service rep today told me that "there is information" that they will have stock next week. We shall see...

(Thanks for your thoughts BTW, benners)

i'll keep my fingers crossed for you! took the D700 out last night to use it in anger for the first time, really pleased!

Further update, it's still due in stock this week. Although I think the rep was just reading the notes from last week's phone call.

Is there anyone else here who ordered a D700 from Dixons/Currys/PC World during the sale and hasn't got it yet? It was showing as "available" for several hours after my order went through, I can't be the only one.

Will they have any more in the shops or will the new stock be totally for back orders?

I'm planning to call again later this week if I've not heard anything, I'll try to get some up-to-date information and numbers (but don't hold your breath). I suspect whatever they get in (if they get anything; they could well be messing me about) will go to backorders, and whatever's left will stay in the warehouse. A D700's not the sort of thing that'll sell well in a non-camera store, sitting next to the likes of the 600D and D3100 which have more megapixels and cost much less money (and come with a lens! and do video!).

But to be honest, if you're looking to buy one now I'd look at another, more reputable dealer (check camerapricebuster); look around these forums for other Dixons/Currys/PC World horror stories. I'm hanging on because I ordered in the sale and the price was right, but now the price is the same as everyone else (who actually has stock now).

the 1479.99 deal was only for a few days at Dixons/Currys/PC World a couple of weeks ago... Amazon did do a brief pricematch at the same time.

Ok, is there anyone on these forums who happens to work for Nikon UK? If so, would you be able to post or pm about the situation with D700 stock?

DSG seem to think they're waiting for more to arrive in the country. But I suspect there aren't going to be any more, given the events of March 11th and the fact that the D700's probably being superceded soon.

Ok, probably my last update for a while:

Spoke to Nikon UK this morning. They say more D700s are coming, but obviously a lot slower than before the earthquake. A vendor who places an order with them can expect to wait 6-8 weeks for it to be filled. Assuming DSG placed an order as soon as they ran out of stock, that means I'll see mine no sooner than this time next month. I can hang on that long, I think.

As for DSG, they told me that their D700 stock level stands at -2, i.e. there's just me and one other poor b****r somewhere waiting for one. (I'd been posting these updates partly for the benefit of any lurkers in the same situation as me - looks like there probably aren't any.) They also said they were waiting for an order of 15, so I guess they'll have a bit of stock come mid/end-July. Not enough to send any to stores though.

And you guys who got your D700s, post some pictures taken with them. Make me even more jealous than I already am :)

well at least yo're getting some info and not bing kept in the dark i guess... not much comfort though! but if you're happy to wait a little while and can get one for £400 off list price, it's got to be worth the wait :)

i've done a couple of gigs now with the D700... Michael Ball and The Darkness on my website :)

Ok, another quicky update. I spoke to a Dixons rep a week or so ago, and was told that they placed their order with Nikon on June 6th. That's nearly a week after I got my order confirmation! (It is a whole week if you count from when I actually ordered it.) So this week is week 7, and if what Nikon told me before is true then I should see some sign of the camera before next week is out.

My confidence that I'm not being messed around somehow is still very low however, to the point where I'm starting to wonder what I should do if it turns out they've just taken my money and kept it for two months.

/rant

If your experience with Dixons is anything like mine then your chances of getting the camera, or even a refund without a fight are pretty slim....:(

I think you would be quite within your rights to take them to court to either demand the product or to get the camera elswhere and expect them to pay any difference. But as you can imagine this would be a lot of hassle :(

I'd be tempted to contact my local trading standards office and seek their advice.

What happened with you Flash?

What really bothers me is the fact that I've had to take all the initiative to find out what's going on (including calling Nikon directly). A couple of emails from Dixons along the lines of "Whoops, we ran out of stock, sorry" and "we've ordered your camera but unfortunately we don't expect it for at least six weeks" would have made all the difference. Instead I almost get the impression they're trying to hide from me and hope I forget somehow. Plus there's the fact that they actually charged my credit card rather than ringfence the money.

I think I'll take your advice John and call Trading Standards later this week, and prepare to take some action come week 9. Unless I hear good news of course.

Well, I guess I'll post another update.

After my last post, Dixons told me that they would definitely be getting stock that week, and I would get my camera the following week.

Which, you can probably guess, didn't happen.

Then they told me that they would definitely, definitely be getting stock in at the end of the week, and I would be getting my camera the following week.

Again, no email or tracking number or camera arrived.

So I called back again, and was told that some D700s had indeed come in that past Friday, but now they were out of stock again. "Where have these cameras gone," I asked. "To other customers," I was told. But they would get someone to call me within 24-48 hours.

Which, of course, didn't happen.

So I called back again, but there's no new information (but someone will call within 24-48 hours). I ask about getting a refund for the non-sale price so I can buy this camera elsewhere. Not possible, I'm told. They can pass my case to the complaints department, who'll respond in 5-10 days. "No need, I'll call back" I say, and hang up.

Then they cancel my order.

You read that right, they cancelled my order. And when I called back, told me they couldn't reinstate it.

Two days later, the D700 once again shows up as available on the Dixons/Currys websites. At full price, of course.

The cynic in me says they cancelled my order so they could sell my camera at a higher price. Of course it won't be me buying it, or indeed anything else from them ever again.

What happened with you Flash?

I bought a tv from them, then I noticed it cheaper elsewhere, but no problem as they have a price promise. Called them up and they wouldn't pricematch so I cancelled the order.

Received an email saying they had refunded the money but it would take 5 working days to get back to my card :suspect:

A month later I still didn't have my refund, took the threat of getting the credit card company involved before they finally replied and grudgingly gave me my money back.

Ah. I'd read a few other posts (here, I think) about them taking a long time to process refunds.

Which is why I was quite surprised that mine came through in only a day or so. Lends credence to my "sell the camera for more to someone else" theory, I think.
