Nikon D5000 telephoto lenses

I understand that lenses should be AF-S or E type (not the car!). Anything to watch out for when buying them? (Newby question).

If you are contemplating 3rd party lenses then they must have the focus motor in the lens because your camera body doesn't have one. The various lens manufacturers have different names for their lenses with built-in motors.
