Nikon D5000 middle focus point problem :(

So yeah,

I noticed this the other day. whenever i use the middle focus point on my D5000 it pretty much never focuses. It's just hunts around all day long.

But if i use any of the other focus points it will focus straight away. (like it's obviously suppose to do) It does this with every lens i use :shrug:

I really don't understand why's it's doing this.

Is my camera dying?

Has this happend to anyone else?

AF-A
AF-S
or AF-C

try AF-S
turn on the 'auto focus light
press ok to select the centre focus point

does it still 'hunt'...?

Tried that and Yes it still 'hunts'

That's not supposed to happen. Could be there's something preventing hte centre point functioning properly like dust on the AF sensor. Try pointing it at something with loads of contrast or patterns, and see if it still does it.

just spent 1/2 hour with various focus modes and focal lengths and 'Live-View' .......always spot-on ...............:shrug:
