Nikon D500 IR remote

I've got the D500 and a Nikon IR remote. I can't seem to find a setting for me to use mirror up mode with the remote. I must be overlooking something somewhere. I'm blaming it on the man flue I have at the moment .. any hints people
 
I do not believe the D500 has an IR receiver for the remote... that's typically only for lower level models. I would go with a radio remote if distance is required, but a cheap wired remote is generally more reliable (and no batteries to go dead).

If you have the R10 plugged into the camera it should work like a wired release... just set the dial to M-Up. It's supposed to be compatible w/ the D500.

Edit: BTW, Nikon's must have AF enabled on the shutter release button if you want AF to function with the remote.

Hmmm .. I tried the M-Up position today and it wouldn't work. It worked just fine with all other settings but I had to manually lift the mirror (one press of the shutter release button), then I could use the remote to trigger. But I could not lift the mirror again by pressing the remotes button ??
 
I don't have the WR-10 system nor a D500. But I have used both wired and RF releases and M-up with my Nikons. I can only think of a couple of possible issues... one being not having AF set to the shutter release button, possibly combined with AF focus priority settings. I think a quick way to check would be to switch the camera to manual focus.
If you can't find a way to make it work you could use a 3 second (max) exposure delay setting... it's basically a 3 second mirror up function (might not be long enough).
 
Found out what the problem was. Even though the remote trigger was working (sort of) I had not "enabled" it in the menu. It's now working just fine in the MUp position as well as AF .. :-)

Cool. I took a quick look through the manual and didn't see any place w/ options for a remote other than for remote flash work... is it something that isn't clear in the manual, or did I just miss it?
 
I couldn't find anything in the manual but I did find it in a book I bought about the D500 .. glad I sorted it ..
 
ummm didn't see that .. mind you I didn't scroll through much in the menu .. just went straight to the required settings and changed .. I will have a poke around tomorrow. Have you seen the Hahnel Capture Pro? Kind of wish I didn't fork out for the Nikon WR 10 now .. looks really good and can be triggered with sound, light, IR ..

You do have to buy the receiver to go with it to make it completely wireless but it looks promising ..
 
TBH, I wouldn't have bought the WR-10 system... I have a cheap ($12) RF intervalometer remote/receiver setup for wireless triggering of the camera (but I generally use an even cheaper wired remote). There are also cheap RF transceivers that can trigger both the camera and flashes (manual ones like the Yongnuo 603's or fancier TTL versions which I have). And all sorts of advanced triggering stuff like the Hahnel/TriggerTrap/etc... all of which can be had about the same as the Nikon system, some for much less.
