hey hey folks.

Whats the collective thoughts on the nikon d50

I have the chance to acquire one.

Thanks :help:

thanks dude...

how would it compare against a canon 10d?

Don't know how they compare but I have had mine about 6 months and have only just started to try and take pictures with out keeping the thing on auto :)

10D is 2 years older than D50, 2 years in camera technology is a lifetime.
I dont think it would be fair to compare them both, they will have their strengths and weaknesses, with the 10D being disadvantaged by 2 years and the fact they weren't competing in the same demographic/consumer target either.

in other words...I dunno:thinking:

your getting a lot of chances to "aquire"

D70 is better than a D50..I'd be happy with either

how about you level with us, whats the sketch mang

you have a budget ? or what

lol.

thanks joxby

how about d70?

There is not much in it between the D50 and the D70. Me and my mate who has a D70 sat down and went through all the features the D70 had compared with my D50 and there was only one or 2 small things that where not on the D50.

The only thing I would want from the D70 on my D50 is being able to light up the top display.

I have had mine for just over a year now and I can't fault it.

The D50 is a brilliant starter camera for the beginner getting into the world of photography.

Ive had mine since April, cant fault it,but as previously stated the inability to light up the top display is a bind..other than that its great..if you have the chance to grab one cheaply enough and its all your budget will allow for, go for it.

Yup, got my D50 nearly 2 years ago now. Personally looking to upgrade soon, but only because I have outgrown it I think. It's still a damn good camera, and will take outstanding pics in the right hands. Go for it mate. I'd imagin they are quite cheap now no?

Had mine for a year and a half now, great camera for starting off, also looking at upgrading soon because I'm starting to outgrow it, but still going to keep it as a 2nd camera.

another D50 owner here, loving it, my mates got a D80 and thats got loads more features but the D50 is perfect for me for the time being.

i got mine with 2 lens's Brand new for a touch over £400, bargain i think. not even had it a year yet.

The D70 has wireless flash capability, which is quite a biggie once you leave auto mode behind.

D50 hi ISO noise is much better, has 1/500 sec flash synch (same as D70) probably has the best 6 MP sensor ever made and the battery life is unbeatable. Had mine 2 years and wouldn't part with it, Nikon had to dumb down a lot for successive 'starter' DSLR's after the D50 was discontinued IMO

defo agree with the battery life, used min when i went to holiday for 5 days, used it every day without charging it then still went to take photo's at a kart track when i got home, still hadnt gone flat after all that

cheers folks.

it seems that for a beginner like me then the d50 would be ideal.

cheers!!

went and bought the d50 today.

cant wait to start using it!!

Oh and also, I bought a 3rd party battery grip and one more Legit Nikon battery from ebay, which can be gotten quite cheap. Makes it feel so much better and the battery life is beyond excellent! The grip doesnt extend controls, but in terms of handling, miles better!
