I've just found my Grandpa's old Vivitar Zoom Thyristor 3500 flash gun, and i'm wondering if its compatible with my Nikon D40, i've read it could possibly damage my hotshoe / whole camera, so i'm a bit warey of trying it out!

I mean I've found this...

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Would_a_vivitar_2600-d_work_on_a_nikon_d40_digital_camera

but its a different flash model. In the literature that came with the flash, it mentions Nikons quite a lot, but obviously these are "Ye Olde" Nikon's

Anyone shed any light on the subject (www.instantrimshot.com)

Much Thanks,
Michael

The 3500 appears to have a trigger voltage of around 9v, whereas the recommended limit for the hotshoe on a Nikon dslr is, iirc 6v. It may well be fine, but....

Hi Flash,. According to my D60 manual the D60 is OK up to 250v.
