Potentially I might be buying a D3
(Fingers crossed the sums work out !!!!!). With regards to the batteries for this beast will it take the same ones that my D700 uses (en-el3e) or does it have to be the En-El4a?

Oh how I hope the sums work out :o))))

It won't work on the 3s, must be the 4.

I really miss mine, but the house extension took precedent:eek:

I thought that was the case but worth checking in cas anyone knew a dodge round the issue.

the EN-EL4A battery will give you up to 3,000 shots per charge! Depending on how much chimping you do maybe even more. I've never come close to running out (although I do have a spare) on a days shooting.
 
As awp says, the battery life is huuuge on the D3, you may never need a spare, charge time is short too with the MH22 standard charger. I shoot a full day on one battery very easily. Hey I have a gripped D200 too now that is a different story with about 600 shots from both batteries.
 
As above, you should see more than 3k images taken on a fully charged battery. Best thing I ever did with regards to photography was purchase a D3s. Amazing camera!!!

I cover a lot of indoor equestrian events in what can be very old fashioned schools i.e bloomin dark even with the dodgy lighting! Five events in particular are very long shooting days starting at 8am and running until about 6.30pm so with the D700 I get through about three batteries (I tend to change them early rather than wait till they completely run out). The D700 copes pretty well but I don't have a back up so with the promise of some spare cash to put towards a D3s I'm investigating the purchase so that the D700 can then become the back up and "presentation shots" camera. I've borrowed a D3 before and was blown away by its capabilities in the dark and gloomy conditions so have been hankering after one for ages ......getting a bit excited now, just got to be brave and press the purchase button !!:D
 
but I've got four En-El3e's !

Maybe I could sell a couple to pay for an extra En-El4a :)
 
trying to find a good price for my potential purchase of the D3s, would anyone have any views on Mifsuds ?

Just bought the D3s, thanks JPW for the suggestion to try MPB. :woot::woot::clap::clap:

Tomorrow's delivery seems ages away!:D
