Hi Guys

I`m looking for some help regarding the compatibility of a Nikon lens to be used on a Nikon D3400

The lens is a Nikon 85mm AF-S f/1.8 G and the Camera is a Nikon D3400

would any of you kind gentlemen/women know if these two are compatible ?

Thank you in advance for any help

Yes. The key part of the lens designation is the AF-S.

Good choice of lens for a mid range zoom. Super sharp and it won't unbalance the camera.

The AF-S signifies the lens has a built in focus motor. A nikon lens designated AF-D requires the camera body to have a bujlt in focus motor the camera connects to the lens via what looks like a screw head on the lens mount. So you will be fine with te 85mm lens on your camera.

Cheers

As above it’ll work fine. One thing to note though is that Nikon DSLRs have two categories for cameras and lenses, DX and FX.

The D3400 is a DX body meaning it has an APS-C (crop) sensor. You can use both DX and FX lenses on your camera but note that the focal length (or more accurately field of view) will be 1.5x that shown on the lens. This means that the 85mm will have the field of view of a 127.5mm lens (85 x 1.5)
