Hi Gary
it will give you one thing over the D3100 - the ability to print bigger than you can with the D3100.

if you haven't hit that limit there's little point making that jump.

Ok cool cheers for advice

Can u recommend a camera for around £550??

I have had my nikon d3100 for over a year now and just like changing

I don't think you'll see much difference if you buy a new body for £550.

Now, if you were to spend that on a good second-hand lens ...

I have a D3100 at work and a D3200 as a lightweight personal camera and I wouldn't say the swap was worth it, especially as (no offense) you don't really seem to know what you're doing.

A better lens is a good suggestion but without knowing what you want to do with it no one can say which one. It's a bit like asking what car to buy without telling them that you need to tow a horse box, or have a family of 8 you need to move around...

Ha ha good point, it's for family portraits and pics of the kids at home as have a back drop and lighting etc

Garry - looking at your answers and posts elsewhere you have plenty of kit. Can I suggest practice - and if the money is really burning a hole in your pocket - look at getting some training.

I went on a portrait photography training course at Blackthorn which was very good, and am just finishing an intermediate course at my local college.

I've had my D3100 for nearly 2 years now. I was considering changing to a higher spec body this year, as I wasn't happy with a few of the images I was taking. However, I took some advice from people on here and elsewhere, and went for a new lens instead.

£370 later, my pictures are now much sharper and clearer, more so than I had imagined they would be. So, don't just buy a new body because it sounds better. Invest in a good quality lens first. Once you've got the hang of that, then you can start looking at upgrading the body...
