Yes
Really whats the point, apart from maybe landscape shots
its far too fiddly to use as an everyday thing

Frame pic in Live View
Click shutter
Live View switches off
Camera focuses
Press shutter button fully
Takes pic
Re-press shutter button to get Live view back on again

or am I missing something here?

The best use I have found for it is watching wildlife. I can turn liveview on, zoom right in on say a Heron, then watch it live on the back screen. As for using it to take picture, I can't see me needing to use it for much.

So that's it - i'm not doing something wrong with it?

I think live view is going to be useful for macro shots when setup on a tripod.

I use it when the D300 is on a tripod connected to a PC running Camera Control Pro V2 - you can then use the PC screen in place of the view finder. You can also control all of the camera functions from the PC.

Live view is a gimmick, if I wanted to watch the image on the LCD like that I'd buy a P&S, not an SLR. I tried it once on my D3 to make sure everything worked, and that's it. It would have been useful if the mirror locked up the whole time LV was active, as it would have reduced the noise during shooting. But it doesn't so it's a completely useless feature IMO.

A week ago I would have agreed with you but during my most recent wedding I found that I used Liveview a lot when going for my arty shots. The lighting in the venue was dreadful even before the lights got turned down but I was still able to lay the camera on tables, engage liveview, compose & use long exposure times to get some interesting shots - I would have had to get down on my stomach on the floor to get some of the shots I did (I would have done too if I didn't have liveview )

I find the main benefit of this is the actual composition of the shots was very easy to sort with this feature.

This is just my opinion of course & I'm not sure how many other "real life" situations I could find a use for it in but in this case it was a very useful feature to me.

:agree:
Purely for getting shots that would mean compromising positions or infact positions you canot get into

Thanks for the info guys,
I thought I was doing something wrong with it
plus I had heard (think it was on here) about someone having a problem with the Live-View and the camera replaced, that how come I was checking it out last night
