I Just bought a second hand D£ & noticed it's not focusing sharply with my 24-70 (which I thought worked well on the D700), i've had a go fine tuning & it seems a lot better - I just wondered if this is a 'common' thing to do or if I should really send it to Nikon for a service as well?

Depends on how far youve had to adjust it. If its way out could be worth the effort. If its just a bit i wouldn't bother.

Do you have another lens to test against? On the D3 you can adjust each lens or the body itself so the setting would apply to every lens. If the lens worked well on your D700, it seems likely its the D3 that needs a little tweaking.

Put it on -10 at the moment, going to do a few more tests later on. Yes I have a couple of other lenses which I can try, just tend to use the 24-70 most of the time. Was really trying to get a feeling of how common it is to do this or if the camera I bought is not quite right....

Is it fifferent at 24mm to what it is at 70mm, is it also different at close up and then at say 10mts away
