Hi all.....

When I press the QUAL button on The D200 it displays the WB feature?

I thought of resetting the camera but you need to Press QUAL along with Exp -+ button but because pressing The Qual button displays the WB feature this doesn't work?! I tried to research this on the Net but couldn't find a solution?

I had a similar problem before, when I pressed the ISO button it displayed the WB feature? To solve that I took the batterygrip off, it was like there was some sort of discharge or something? But I have tried removing the battery grip (which solved the problem before) but the issue is still there?

Before the camera also had problems where it wouldn't focus either? But again taking the battery grip off, reattaching it seemed to solve this issue.

Anyone help me out here, advice is much appreciated?

Ed :)

Not heard of that one before and I have the same combo Ed ... ... stoopid question but ... have they been working alright up to now ...

I went to shoot an event on Sat and had a few problems where the camera focussed then when you pressed the shutter button it did nothing! :( The week before I used the 6x AA battery compartment in the battery grip as the 2x info-lithium ran out but it kept on telling me the batteries were flat even though they were fresh.

Not to sure what is going on but I'm in quite a cut up mood atm :(

I expect you would be ... sympathies ...

I meant the Qual/WB buttons playing up actually ... but have you tried it in normal battery configuration ... i.e. without the grip fitted ...

If you've done all the usual then sounds likely to be a warranty jobby ... :suspect:

Would like to know the cause though when you do get it sorted ... good luck with it ... ;)

Indeed, I tried without the battery grip and its still the same :( I'm not to sure if theres some sort of charge/static issue? Not sure....

Its still under warranty but I use The D200 as the main body and I'll miss it as its going to need to be sent away. But glad its still under warranty.

Thanks for your help venomator though, its much appreciated and I'll let you know how I get on after I ring up ajpurdy tomorrow.

My camera in a way is a life for me in itself, which may sound weird but I Freelance and with my main body away its going to be like I've lost my best mate!

Does the camera have a function for reprogramming the buttons?

Can the firmware be reloaded as all those sort of functions are controlled by the operating software.

Not that I know anything about Nikons of course :)

being as I now have one of these, I will be eager to hear what happens too. It sounds like some sort of contact/shorting out issue on that top button as WB, Qual and ISO are altogether

good luck kinobe!

I'm thinking exactly the same LadyLens but its just baffling me :(

I was thinking of upgrading the firmware but am skeptical about doing this cos it was working all okay on the current revision? But I may do this?

Ed

I have never done a firmware upgrade on a camera [though plenty on stuff like routers], and on the strength of Roberts post I was just looking at how to do it on Nikons site. It seems fairly straightforward, but those are famous last words.

Could be worth re-installing current version [or upgrading if its not the latest], but then, if you do accidently muck it up, they may not honour the warranty....

I'm just wondering who would be the best to call to solve this issue pronto? Is it best to give Nikon direct a call first and explain the problem or ring ajpurdy where I bought it from? The D200 is coming upto 10 months old now.

Its no doubt going to have to go away for repair.........

The focus issue may be that you've accidentaly disabled the half press focus option. AFAIK you can do this in the menu somewhere, so it only focuses when you use the af button. (it's cutom functions a6 for the halfpress and a10 for the mbd200 button functions)

I think the iso/qual/wb button issue sounds like a short or dodgy connection though as I don't think there is any way to alter these in the menus.

I'd send it back, with only 2 months of warranty left it shouldn't be happening , even if it is a firmware issue, it may cure it by reloading it, but it'll probably just go permamently wrong 1 month after the warranty expires!

BUY A CANON!!  :D

Ed ... first off I would certainly take Robert's advice about upgrading firmware ... it is straightforward as long as you follow the instructions closely and may sort you out ...

Failing that I would talk to AJ's ... they are extremely helpful and have one or two Darksider experts there that I have found very knowledgeable in the past ... ... try Steve Marley ...

HTH ... :D

Hello Ed, I'm sorry you seem to be having problems, and with your specific problem I can't help.

This is just a query, you said that you used AA batteries in your handgrip, did you tell the camera what type of batteries you were using in the handgrip? I was surprised that the camera needed to be told what batteries it was getting power from, but I suppose they deliver power in different ways, and it is good to tell the camera what you are using. I doubt the camera thinking it is using different types of batteries could induce your main problem, but I suppose it could account for misreading of battery power levels.

Hope you get it all sorted quickly. :)

The problem you had with the batteries showing as dead even though they were fresh is a known issue. I've even had it myself. Turning the camera on and off seems to sort it in the short term.

What seems to happen with lenses with built in motors (i.e. AFS or HSM) is that the cameras internal battery (the one that holds date/time and other settings) is drained instead of the normal battery. The battery then shows up as flat.

AFAIK there is no solution yet for this. :(

On another note, the current firmware version is 2.0. :)

Duplicate..... Sorry

Wow, thanks for the responses all, muchos appreciated.

I rang ajpurdy this morning and well they give me two choices, send it to them and they will send it Nikon or I can contact Nikon direct and it may get sorted quicker as I cut out "The middle man" (ajpurdy) So rang Nikon this morning and well I've got a case number now. Just need to box it up and send it away tomorrow.

Its going to take 21days max apparently which is not enough time as I have a couple of events to shoot between now and then. My D200 is acting as my main body and as I've got used to it (the way its feels/holds) I'd rather be shooting with The D200 at events more than anything else. I rate the d200 quite professionally tbh. Okay its let me down here but I'm just going to have to accept that.

I'm honestly not to sure weather to upgrade the firmware or not? I'm always weary about doing that, as everything was "working fine" uptil this point now, without the need of an upgrade and I'm always one for "if it ain't broken, don't fix it"

Redhead17 - Never really had a problem before. I was always using Panasonic batteries but switched to Philips as they were "cheaper" This weekend I went to shoot an event and went out to buy some Panasonic.... long and behold they work fine in the battergrip 6x aa compartment. Although it shouldn't really make a difference what batteries I use! After some research on Nikonians lastnight (hope I'm allowed to say that) I read about the common issue of batteries displaying as flat even though they are charged! Why Nikon havn't done anything about this I'll never know but hopefully soon as lots of people are experiencing the same problem. Thanks for pointing that out aswell JoeT.

Thanks again for the responses...... Perhaps I should upgrade the firmware.

Ed :)
