Nikon D200 or Fuji S5 Pro ?

I'm new to this forum and to D SLR's. Thinking of getting one of these secondhand. I would appreciate any advice, coments,comparisons etc. Thanks in advance.

Depends very much on what you need it for. The S5 is much slower (FPS and general write speed) but has a much larger Dynamic Range and Much better ISO performance. The D200 would be better for sports/wildlife + 12 megapixels over 6 giving better cropping potential. Both require good glass to make the most out of them though.

Personally, I went for the S5 and don't regret it one bit.

Agreed your intended use is a major choice factor.

As Simon says, they are two different beasts, but pricewise a new S5Pro costs about the same as a used D200, so if landscapes or portraits are your thing then it's a cracking buy, but for motorsport or something like that the D200 would be a better bet.
 
As Sam and Simon say the S5 is fantastic for portraits and landscapes but it will struggle on anything fast as the write speed is more suited to studio work yet the D200 is a hell of a lot faster so depends on what you shoot
 
I second the vote for the S5. I have a couple which get used in the Studio and at weddings.

The colours that come out of them are just about spot on whereas I found I always have to do more editing with a D200.

I think this is where the S5 really excells. The straight out of camera images are just fantastic in comparison to, well, any other camera I have used.
 
Thanks very much guys, leaning towards the S5 as I prefer mainly landscapes. Fingers crossed !
