Nikon D1 Values

A fool and there money will soon be parted.

2.7mp......oh how the world has leapt forward.....

A user, of course, could just pick up a D300 or something for under £200 and have a superior camera in every way. But collectors take a different view. I suppose if any dSLR is going to become collectible, it's this one (some Nikon fans are a bit like Apple fans in their devotion to the brand). But I wonder how long it will be possible to use it? The original battery is dead, and third party replacements like the one the seller includes won't be available for ever, or last forever (even unused). You can still put film in a 70 year old Nikon rangefinder or a 60 year old Nikon F, and I'd bet on film production continuing at some level for a good few years yet. Perhaps those milestone film cameras will outlast their digital counterpart for practical purposes?

Normal logic doesn't apply to collectors. Somebody paid over £300k for the earliest known Nikon I; a pre-production Leica went for >£2M. Anyone buying a D1 at this point must be some sort of collector. There's really no other reason to buy one.

This. Over £500 for a 20yr old digital camera is nuts. Paying that money, for that is the ultimate definition of being a schmuck.

No worse than paying thousands for a modern camera and barely ever using it. Whoever buys this at least might get out and take some pictures, because it might be more fun to use

It's no worse than someone paying ridiculous money for a stamp, or old coin either. At least this has a use!

Either way, like anything else, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

I still use an sos D30 from about 2000. Admittedly not every day but pair with with one of the 2.8 lens I got and it’s very nice. Having said that I won it for around only £20 a while ago...

How - it’s a digital SLR. They’re much of a likeness really. I doubt using it would be any more “fun” than using my d810

You'd have to ask the person paying for it, I mean - I wouldn't pay £20 for it personally, but someone willing to pay £500 will have a reason. I would hope so at least! Maybe it's fun as in a challenge - much older tech, a different approach to get nice images ... I don't know, I'm not going to judge people for what they're into
