Yes
Is anyone using one as a retro fit item on a Nikon?
Anyone got any feedback?

I have been looking at a few types and there seems to be a vast variation in price, but is there a vast variation in quality and effectiveness?

Any info?

Cheers

Chris

Not sure if this helps - But I've used the Nikon GP-1 (£180+) and a Yongnuo N918-N1 (£65 ebay) and the cheaper version does exactly the same as the genuine GP-1....

Not sure what Nikon camera you have but would it be worth having a look at the Yongnuo??

To give you some idea on what the Yongnuo looks like

Trig's That unit is on Ebay for under fifty quid at the moment. Trouble is its from China.

There are Phottix units for sale from UK suppliers for 95 quid.

Dilemma?????

Does the remote shutter release plug into the GPS unit

Mmmmmm A saving of around £45 - I know where I would buy from - but depends on how quick that you want one & this N918-N1 does exactley the same as the Nikon GP-1 (have owned it) & also looks identical to both the Nikon & Phottix GPS units..

Crikey they've dropped in price - they were £65 when I got mine :'(:'(

Why pay the extra £'s if they do exactley the same thing

Yes it fits into the GPS unit but I dont use it as I have a wireless remote...

Can the in-camera flash still pop up with one of those attached or do you need to mount of camera? Does it come with a strap attachment?

What about in-door performance? Apparently a lot of these cheaper devices don't have a 'buffer' of the last known location. Is it strictly out door or does it remember the last known location?

Not really with the flash unless you have it right at the end of the hot-shoe but some do come with a strap adaper (Nikon GP-1 & Phottix) I use a clip for mine (N918-N1) or just let it dangle (as it has a short cable unlike the Nikon GP-1 which iirc was quite long)

Regards to indoor use I found it the same as the Nikon GP-1 it takes alittle time to find but once found it stays there (best way I found was to stand outside then go indoors)

Regards to the last known location - I couldn't say as I haven't used mine since the first time I used it - only used it the once so far :$

then again why would you want to know the last location as it would've tagged the last position on the last photo you took.....

I'll give it ago tomorrow & see if it remembers or not

Ah only if you take a photo outside ;-) I guess I'm more moving towards the Solmeta Geotagger Pro or N2. Just can't make up my mind whether it is worth the extra money.
