Hi, I received a Visa Prepaid Card from Nikon's Cashback promotion and woild like to ask if it is possible to "recharge" the card after I spend the money from the Cashback.

I tried but I couldn't get it to work via the website on the documentation. Think it's a one-use card...

I also had a nightmare trying to spend my £80 via the internet, seeing as split transactions are a non-no for things that cost more than I had on the card. I linked it up to my paypal account but in the end, bought something over the phone as a split payment...

Ok, thanks for the info. I think it's very questionable to use a system like that. They send me the card AND Pin within the same letter. Anyone could use the card. Also as a on off thing it's not really environment friendly, at least you should be able to charge the card to reuse it.
Strange strategy from Nikon, I prefer a Cheque as Canon do and Nikon did before.

I prefer direct bank lodgement. I still have to spend my £75, I misplaced the letter and cannot remember the PIN. Is it the last 4 digits on the card?

How long did you chaps have to wait for the card after confirmation of validity by Nikon?

Al

Thanks very much. Should be arriving soon in that case :)

For me 10 days and that's including Xmas in between ^^ Confirmation on the 19th and today I received the Card.

I found it more useful to purchase an Amazon voucher using the full balance of the Nikon pre-paid card. That way, I had a bit more freedom on what I spend it on as some sites got a bit sniffy about the registered card holder address of the pre-paid card and refused the transaction.

Received mine today.

The Amazon voucher is a great idea.

would it be possible to go to say tescos and put (in my case) £55 of fuel in my car ? might sound daft but the cashback deal was part of the funding for my camera .

Yes, can be used anywhere a Visa card can.

Had a quick look in the Help section at citi, definitely no recharge (IMO stupid and not very environmentally friendly), a BACS payment would have been better and surely cheaper for Nikon as well?

Q. Can I deposit money onto my card?
A. No. You cannot deposit your own money onto your card. Only the company that gave you your card can add money to your card.

I think it is a complete con, not only have I recently bought lenses that are as good if not better than their expensive Nikon counterparts, but I now find that I bought the 28-300 under the auspecies of 'Cashback', and its not cashback at all... you have to spend more money or get yourself further into debt to get any benefit. Cashback means cashback ! Nikon are now begining to price themselves out of the market and I am sure I am not the only consumer who has a beef over this fact... bit like the government trying to spend (NIKON CASHBACK) ! in order to get out of bancrupcy !. I am not now surprised that more photographers are changing over to Canon, and after 40 years of using Nikon it has now come to this state of afairs with them offering something that it is most definitely not. I think it should be taken up by watchdog as to use the term Cashback surely should mean what it says ?.

To all the whingers...

If you don't like the cards, send them to me.

I suppose it should be actual cash, but unless you don't ever spend anything cannot see why it matters what form the refund takes if it can be used pretty much anywhere.
Our rewards and recognition at work comes via a visa card and used my one and only payment on shopping, would have bought it anyway from my own funds

I purchased two lenses as part of the cash back as I had insurance credit from calumet , I applied , completed all the relevant criteria , and got an email a week later to say , only one cash back offer per person is allowed , really annoyed as this was not stated in any of the terms that I could find

I had an issue with Nikon last year - I bought a D610 as the website showed that the promotion ended a long time in the future.

When I tried to make the claim, Nikon told me that the date shown was the deadline for claims, not purchases. I copied the Web page with the promotion details (before they took it down!) and challenged Nikon to tell me where I could find that specific information. I told them that I would report them to Trading Standards unless they resolved the matter to my satisfaction. They decided to honour the cashback, which I graciously accepted!

On the subject of the Nikon Visa card, I used it to buy petrol, but found that I couldn't use it at the card-only pumps at Asda. I agree that it is not strictly "cashback", however you can use it for day to day purchases that you would otherwise make with cash.

Clause 10 says you are limited to one claim per person per product. If they were two different lenses, you should be OK.
I'd be having a look at the Unfair Terms in consumer Contracts Regulations 1999, in particular Schedule 2, section 1 (j);

INDICATIVE AND NON-EXHAUSTIVE LIST OF TERMS WHICH MAY BE REGARDED AS UNFAIR

1. Terms which have the object or effect of–

(j) enabling the seller or supplier to alter the terms of the contract unilaterally without a valid reason which is specified in the contract;
