Been lurking for a while.

First post, I have to share this story...

I was covering an indoor 5-aside competition today. Turned up, and before I got one shot off the ball goes through the goal net and hits the camera in my hand.

Flash gets knocked clean out of the shoe (it was locked), gel holder and other bits go flying. The referee kindly helps me collect the pieces, while all the kids and parents find the whole thing amusing! Meanwhile, I'm wondering where the break occurred - hot shoe or flash itself, and what else got damaged - my 70-200? Brand new D3s?

Well amazingly, even through the flash got knocked clean off the camera, there doesn't seem to be the slightest bit of damage anywhere.

Either the equipment is indestructable or I got very lucky with a straight-on hit. I can't quite believe it!

Anyone else have a similar story?

BTW I shoot Premier League football amongst other things so always interested in what the pros on here have to say. I learnt everything I know from internet forums ;)

The lock pin will give if forced enough, so your lucky...:)

Now if you had a Canon you could have fired the ball right back.:lol::lol:
