Nikon AF 70-300mm

i can get this lens second hand of my friend and was wondering if it would fit the d40 body, even *** i am upgrading soon i was hoping to still use it on this body. thanks

will work with the D40, but has no auto focus, so will need to do it manually

Because the D40 has no in body motor and relies on lenses with a motor buit in such as AF-S from Nikon or HSM from Sigma.

although on manual focus you will still get the little green in-focus light in the viewfinder when the focus is right for the selected focus point.
