I have a Nikon AF 70-210 F4 - 5.6 D and have been Googling till my eyes have gone googly, trying to find out id the Nikon TC-16A is compatible with this lens, some answer's say it is, some say it is but only in manual and some say it isn't, I don't mind using it in manual as it will be for wildlife and sat on a tripod, the only other option I have to get a little more reach is the AF 70-300f4 D but all reviews say these are soft over 200mm so I am really edging my bets on the TC-16A any info would be appreciated, by the way the lens is used on my F4S so cant use modern lenses, must be the screw drive system.

As you say, conflicting results from around the Internet. Sorry I can't help :(

If you're ordering it on-line, tell the seller exactly what the intended usage is and if it doesn't work as you hope, you can send it back as unfit for intended use.

Not a huge Rockwell fan but he's not far off on the technical side and he reckons the TC behaves a bit oddly behind D lenses on some bodies.

No idea about compatibility, but i would seriously suggest looking for a Sigma 100-300mm f4,plenty on Ebay around £160-300, compatible with Sigma tc's and a truly stellar optic.

I have actually given up on the idea, that's all it was really, I may look at a nice Sigma 100-300 as Ian suggests, I may even try a AF 70-300f4 D Nikon just to see if they are soft after 200mm after all they are pretty cheap so worth a go I reckon.
