Nikon 85mm 1.4D lens help

I am looking to buy an 85mm 1.4 lens but cannot find anyone that has stock for me to look at in my area (north Worcestershire).
Does anybody know of any likely retailers I could try. I have already tried Calumet and Jessops.
Failing that do any members living within around an hours drive have one that they would let me look at and try to see if it works ok on my kit.
I have a D700 with a night vision tube, and only wish to take 1 pic to see if the shutter will release. I have a 70-200vr11, 24-70 and a 105vr micro that work with it, but not sure if the D lens is compatible,

I cant see what the problem is, if you buy a lens from Ffordes and are not sure if it will work on your camera and it doesn't work then you can send it back. Surely thats what the approval period is for.

I wasn't suggesting the OP waste £20 in postage by getting a lens from Ffordes just to try.

Could you try a 50mm f/1.8 most people must have one of those in stock. Or you buy a second hand one from ffordes and send it back during the 10 day approval period.

Good call, I tried the 50mm and my old 35 - 70 D lens and neither would fire the shutter, so looks like it will have to be the AIS version
