Hey, i'm looking to buy the Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 AF-D NIKKOR ED at a really good price BUT the only issue is that the lens has a rattle and its concerning me that it could be something really bad? Or is it something that happens to lenses in time seeing as it's an old model, i'm going to try it out tomorrow on my camera so i'll be able to check it properly.

Do you think this rattle is something I should look out for?
 
Most lenses will have a degree of rattle...how audible it is, a different matter.

My brand new 105mm VR was quite loud when I shook it but Nikon said it's nothing to worry about and is quite normal.

Maybe worth still checking.
 
Personally, I'd go for the AF-S if possible. None of my lenses rattle from general handling.
 
It might even be the AF-S, I didn't really have much of a look at it when I popped in due to being rushed for work
 
Fingers crossed for you, the 80-200mm 2.8 AF-S is a fantastic lens.
