Hi all

Am pondering merits of going retro with the AF-S version of Nikon's 80-200mm f/2.8, as opposed to a 70-200mm VRII, to use with my TC-20EIII converter. Has anyone got any experience of such a combo as the power of Google yields little in terms of in depth review.

Thanks

Mike

I haven't had experience of using those together but having used both the 2x and the 80-200 I would have thought that it would be an excellent cheaper combination - that having been said the AF-S versions are very few and far between.

Are they compatible, I seem to recall investigating this a while back to find the 80-200's didn't work with TC's. I guess the AFS version may be ok?

No limitations for the 80-200 AF-S on any of the converters including the new 2X.

Only the AF-S version works with t.c's the other versions don't.

According to Nikon's compatibility list the 80-200 AF-S has no limitations with any of the latest 1.4, 1.7 and 2X converters ... why do you say "some".

Thanks all - and indeed, officially at least, the AF-S model should be fine so (as always) Gary your wisdom behind your comment would be appreciated!

Cheers

Mike

i probably misunderstood, i was thinking Soda Farl meant any AF-S lenses not just the 80-200mm
