Any one here using a nikon 750 for sports?
Any good?
What would get between a low milage d3s or a 750 for about the same price?

Definitely The D3S is the better horse to bet on in any/every aspect for the same money.

Though…
• the D750 will be lighter without the grip, choice you don't have with the single digit.
• on the long run, the D3S is of a tougher bread (pro level) and is capable off all the
extremes in most situations, it's my work horse.
• the D750 has a flap screen that comes handy at times.
 
Build aside, there are two major differences between the cameras when considering sport.

The D3s has a 12Mp sensor, the D750 is 24.
The D3s shoots at up to 11 fps, the D750 at 6.

It's a trade off. Cropability v frame rate and that decision will very much come down to your shooting style and the type of sport covered.

I'd say there was very little in it in practical terms.
Although the D3s does have a longer rate shutter life.

And as I have a lot of cricket this season am leaning 750 way, and should go well will my d3s
 
Hang on. You already have a D3s? You might have considered mentioning that in your initial post!
Mentioning a specific sport would have helped as well.
 
If i were to gear up again and start shooting pro Rugby League again i would go with 2 x D750 over my old D3S's
 
Conversely if he already has a D3S, for cricket I'd be tempted to look at a D7200 depending on what type of lenses are available.

Possibly, as shooting Cricket (usually) means shooting in good light so the high ISO qualities of an FX body isnt a real factor but not sure of the AF abilities of the D7200
 
Woops, sorry should have mention that i have a d3s, d3
Am going to up grade my d3. and cannot justify buying a d4s.
I normal do a lot of cricket (some under lights), and rugby under lights.
so would be after low light ability as well.

The AF on my D750 is better than the AF of my old D3S specifically in poor light, lighting worse than floodlighting is no problem for a D750, sure its a trade off and you lose a few FPS and about 1/4 - 1/2 a stop of ISO performance but the extra cropping ability, the ability to purposley under expose and pull back in post production and the better out of the camera Jpegs are a winner, as is the price.

interesting :) D3s is 6 years old and finally something bit smaller can stand up to it (in only some cases like AF accuracy/speed). Glad to hear it from you Gary, as you are known to use D3s for a long time :) I may need to replace both D600's at some point, as last wedding i did i struggled to lock focus few times (was pretty damn dark tho)

Tried D750 in the shop and really liked the deeper grip it has to compare to D600
