Yes
I currently have the 55-200 non vr but find the reach to short and I think its a bit soft,(thread to follow).
What I need to know is: is this lens a viable nature lens, mainly for birds, or, would i be better going for a zoom with a 400mm top end ?
I am on a very limited budget, basically, the more I spend the harder the wife beats me :D.
Also, what tc would be suitable ?
I have the D3100 and the 55-300 AFS VR does sound very good value and has good reviews, but, does it have the reach ?
Many thanks
Cliff

You'll never have enough reach.

Personally I would say for birds you'll need at least a 400-500mm lens. On a budget I'd look at one of the Sigma lenses SH.

I used to have the 55-300 but found it very soft at 220-300. Changed to 70-300, which is much better. I think 300 is too short for bird photos.
