Yes another 50mm question!

Hi I am looking to get this lens next and I have a D90 and D60.

I know the D90 will handle it with autofocus, whilst it wont with the D60. Will the D60 handle the aperture control and metering? Can the lens also be stopped down manually, to assess depth of field?

I dont have a problem with manual focussing, especially as the camera has a built in range finder.

Main use will be for portraits and macro plus of course low light.

I have looked at the 1.4 AF and 1.4 AFS but they are much more expensive and I cant justify the extra!!!!

it will work just as you say, np at all.

the narrow dof may be testing when manually focusing @ 1.8 when close up

true macro is done with manual focus anyway ;)

yes very much part of my thinking......

OK bought one today.......am I correct in that it will work in full frame mode on an FX camera like the D700 (eying up the future....)

yes it will

isn't search great, I was about to ask about using 50mm on the full frame cameras!

I have a f1.8 now and was looking at the f1.4, there is now a choice of AFS or AF models. Is there any difference at all between the AF and AFS models other than the motor in the lens which is of course irrelevant with my D200,D1x and forthcoming FF camera. The AFS is rather a lot more money!

Supposed to be better optically, doubt you would notice in real world photography, although the one they all go on about is the new Sigma 50mm f1.4, but that is even more expensive.

I would stick with the f1.8 50mm to be honest.
