Nikon 50mm F/1.4D AF

They serve different purposes. The 35mm would be equivalent to a "normal" lens on your D3100, whereas your 50mm would serve more as a short telephoto/portrait lens...

I've got both and they are great, but for different things.

I had it on my D7000. Its a fantastic lens and produces lovely I pictures but if you've got the 35 already then I'd probably get something longer like an 85mm 1.8.

I really like the AFS 50mm f1.4G I did buy it with the D700 but to be honest the 24-70 lives on that camera so it doesn't get a look in. It's spent almost all of it's time on the F80 instead where it is rather nice. I've used it to good effect on the D300 though.

I did have the AF50mm f1.8D before getting the 1.4 and, although the 1.4 is better, I wouldn't sell the 1.8 for the 1.4 again! The 1.8 is a really good lens.

Besides what's already been said, bear in mind that on the D3100 the f/1.4 AF-D will not auto focus.

That aside, I'm a big sucker for 1.4 lenses, and I don't mind manual focus.
