i've been toying with this lens for a while and was wondering if there are other alternatives. i dont mind buying second hand and have around £200 to spend.

I have a d5000 18-55vr, 55-200vr, but i have found that i need a lens for indoor shooting where i dont want to use a flash. I am probably going to sell my 18-55vr once i have got my 50mm.

any recommendations?

Just get it. Stunning lens. No other nikon 50mm will af on your camera.

I have a Nikon 50mm F1,4 G AF-S and have tio say it is a fantastic fast sharp lens, for the money they dont come better.
Consider a 50mm f1.8 for similar sharp images slightly slower AF and obviously F1.8but for £75 used a cracking lens all the same.

is the 1.8 an af-s lens? also can anyone recommend a place i can get them second hand as they seem to pretty scarce?

consider the 35mm af-s lens.... it will auto focus on the camera you own.

I was looking at the 50mm also but when i tried it i didnt like it and thus tried 35mm and it feels just right. (hasnt left my camera yet)

can you elaborate why you didnt like it? the more info the better. from what ive been hearing, the 50mm is supposed to be really good.

What focal length is best for you? Some people find 35mm to be the best, others think 50mm is. The 50mm is I would say slightly better, sharper and better for portraits

I also prefer the 35mm f1.8 as i like the focal length better. I think you just need to find out if 50m is what you really want. If it is then get the 50mm f1.4. I expect I'll also get the 50mm f1.4 to accompany the 35mm f1.8!!

Fantastic lens, a tad soft wide open but I'm being very nit picky.
