hi all,

I'm looking at buying a Nikon 35mm af-s lens for my d40X, i've done my research on this lens and looks good for the money and also it's roughly half the price of the Nikon 50mm af-s. I'm also wanting the auto focus so the old 50mm is out of the question.

i currently have the kit 18-55mm and the 18-200mm lens but would like to own a prime lens of around 50mm.

whats your opinion of this lens? is it worth buying? i know simga do a 30mm but again, its abit above my budget.

I have one and like it a lot. There's a flickr group dedicated to it too. I had a 50mm but found it a bit too long for some indoor shots, where as the 35 on a DX is great. Set you 18-55 to 35mm and spend a day at that range to make sure you're ok with 35, and if you are, go for it.

thats a great idea, i'll do that before i splash out - i'm looking forwards to owning a fast lens, i've never used one before 8-)

I really like the 35mm 1.8 a lot, I think it performs really well at an affordable price. It has a nice 'normal' view on crop cameras and I always whack it on whenever I'm taking my camera to indoor/low-light events.
