I've read lots and lots of reviews comparing the Nikon and Canon.
For the most part, the video of the Nikon seems to give it the lead in online reviews. I've used both cameras in shops and like both. It will be my first DSLR so I don't have a preference. Both feel comfortable and both seem easy enough to navigate through the menus.
I don't care about the videoing... I honestly won't use it.
Jessops are offering a Canon 1100D with an 18-55mm and a 75-300mm Canon IS lens, filters and a bag for 499 pounds.
The Nikon 3100 (which is quickly becoming out of stock in a lot of shops) is 450 pounds with just the 18-55mm lens.
My photography will be a real mix of city / land scapes and general 'family' photographs. Not much low light or other type of more 'specific' photographs.
The closer to 500 pounds, the better. I like the idea of the 2nd 75-300mm lens but am worried that the Nikon's the better camera.
Thanks a lot,
Mike
