Yes
I got my new 300mm f/4 today, what a great lens, far sharper than my 70/300mm,

the next stage is to try my Kenko PRO 1.4 TC,

has anyone tried this combination? do you loose image quality?,

I use this combo. Seems fine to me :)

Exif shows 300mm @ f/4 as Kenko doesn't register on the Exif data (mines not the AF-S lens).

Yes, and yes to some degree.

There's no such thing as a free lunch

There are three versions of 70/300mm. Which one are you meaning?

sorry, the lens is the Nikon 70/300 VR AFS,

I suppose what I am asking is if the Kenko TC is good enough or should I invest in the Nikon 1.4 TC?

No difference optically that anyone I know can discern.

Build quality, price and whether or not the bloody end caps stay on is the main differences.

Plus the Nikon one won't fit on things it wasn't designed to fit on and the Kenko Pro might...

Anyone using a 1.7 tc with the Nikon 300 AF-S f/4? I understand this wo't auto focus due to too low light levels...?

As must have been said a million times on here... it does work with the 1.7x and I use it extensively for high speed motorsport, so its not even "too slow".

The problem almost certainly is for older/low end Nikon bodies which can't AF beyond f5.6. Not a problem for D300/D700/D3 which AF up to f8.

Thank you - can't help being new here, and if it's been said a million times, it's worth saying again (try having kids!)
Might endeavour to try one out on my D300 to be sure as I'll be shooting in Bonnie Scotland in the winter : /

Yeah, yeah, fair cop. I spent so long searching threads my other bits, I just tried the 'stick in the question anyway' tactic on this : )
