I've got a Z7 and a Z5 full spectrum. I'm currently using an FTZ converted 24-70 f2.8 as my main lens on my Z5 as it doesn't hot-spot in infrared too badly. My main lens on my Z7 is the Z 24-200. (it was supposed to be the other way around, but the 24-200 hot-spots really badly in infrared so is unusable on the Z5 except in colour)

I shoot mostly landscapes.

I'll likely go all in on Z lenses eventually I suspect, but I'm not sure whether to make the jump via the 24-70 f4 that I've seen second hand for a reasonable price, and whether it has benefits (other than just weight) over my existing F mount f2.8?

Any thoughts? Heard good things about the Z f4 but can't find any comparisons with the F mount f2.8

Sorry to piggyback on your thread ( and be of no help for the original query) but can I ask how you find the 24-70 2.8 with the FTZ?

I have a Z5 and I miss having a 2.8 zoom.

I know it’s a fair size with the FTZ adapter but how unwieldy is it?

You might get better replies if this was posted in the Z mirrorless thread.
I'll try and briefly answer as I've the f-mount 24-70 non VR, 24-70 f4 Z and 24-70 f2.8 Z, but never used them for infrared.
I used the f-mount 24-70 f2.8 non VR more than any other lens in the past 10 years, it was good but was soft in the corners. In my opinion the 24-70 f4 Z is a sharper lens, especially in the corners, but your giving up a stop of light if using in low light.
The 24-70 f4 is excellent and so small and light, the 24-70 f2.8 Z is simply the best 24-70 I've used across all camera systems and it's almost permanently on my Z7II as it's so good and the 24-70 is my main focal range. It's large and heavy though, but can give primes in it's focal range a serious run for their money.

I tend to carry 2 cameras everywhere, which adds to the weight and its been a real pain carrying them both this week on holiday. The Z7 / 24-200 z combo is *much* lighter. Obviously though it doesn't have the weight of glass in it.

but I don't find the Z5 / 24-70 f2. 8 f mount too unwieldy to use to be honest - I quite like it! It's fairly balanced, though I'm using the tripod mount on the FTZ rather than the camera body. It's probably the same as using an unadopted 70-200.

Not sure how much lighter the z mount 24-70 f2. 8 is - I thought I heard it wasn't much lighter / shorter? But obviously the FTZ adds to it.
