Does anybody out there have any experience of either (or both!) of these two lenses? Any feedback would be welcome. Cheers.

Good morning Stewart,

Last month I picked-up the Sigma 20/1.8 from Jessops for £185. I went with it, rather than the Nikon 20/2.8 as I wanted the faster lens. I never got to use it until this past weekend, and I have to say I am very pleased with the results.

On FX (my D700) it is really wide, quick to focus and I love the short-close-focusing distance. It is, mind you, a rather big lens taking 82mm filters.

Hi Stewart

I wasn't hugely impressed by the Nikkor 20mm really - I found the edge and corner sharpness poor - my Nikkor 17-35 f/2.8 was sharper at all apertures.

Can't comment on the Sigma.

Hi Stewart I have both (in fact I have two Sigmas, long story, and eventually I'll get round to flogging one of them) but I'm not sure how qualified I am in terms of giving you feedback. I'm no pixel peeper, but both lenses give sharp enough results for me.

The Nikkor is so much smaller and lighter than the Sigma, and has the advantage of having a 62mm filter thread rather than the 82mm of the Sigma. The reaons I got one when I already have the Sigma is because I wanted a compact lens on my D70s for Street photography and also didn't fancy paying north of £150 for an IR filter as I want to use the D70s for that too.

I could try and take some comparison shots for you, but with a 1 month old baby in the house I could promise how soon.
