What would peoples preference be out of these two lenses around the 200 range? I like the idea of the extra zoom on the 300 but would there be significant compromise with quality of results? Any advice would be appreciated.
The 70-300vr is significantly sharper at 200mm than the 18-200vr at 200mm, but starts to soften a little towards 300mm.
It depends what range you want most. The 18-200 is a great walkabout lens but if your preference is around 200mm, go for the 70-300.
Qualitywise there's not a lot, if anything, in it. It's all about convenience, if you need the range from 18-70 then get the 18-200, of not save yourself £100 and get the 70-300...
