Ok, so sorry to all those that have been following my lens indecisiveness. I started off liking the 55-200mm VR, then considered the 70-300mm VR lens, but after going into my local independent camera store, i tried out the 18-135mm lens, and i prefered this to the others. like the fact that i have a scope from 18-135mm focal length, and i think this one is gonna be the one for me.

Does anyone have this lens? if so would you recommend it?

Thom Hogan's review HERE rates it very highly in terms of sharpness & handling but it does have a few "issues" - if you planned to get a longer zoom at some stage (like a 70-300mm) it might be wise to opt for the highly rated Nikon 18-70mm now (?) - sorry to confuse things further but you did ask :embarrassed: ... Paul

oh dear, another lens to look at LOL. thanks for your tips, i do appreciate everyones views

You really should save up and go for the 18-200mm VR :)

it would be a better option, but its well out of my price range. my local shop had it priced at £550. my D40x didnt cost that much LOL

gonna try and see what kinda prices the 18-200mm VR goes for online

Or to confuse things more the sigma 17-70 is a great lens for £200 plus it fits right in with my 70-300mm VR.

The sigma 17-70 (for £200 anyway) is not HSM so will not autofocus with the d40/x. There is a new one coming out soon, but im sure it will be considerably more expensive.

Too mummygina,

The 18-200mm VR is available from Tecno for £454.40 at the moment if you use the discount code "tecno10". I also believe this includes free delivery. IIRC Tecno are an off spring of jessops.

True, forgot it was for the D40x, my bad :bonk:

Thanks ever so much for the thumbs up. i really appreciate it. i definelty like the one general lens idea. so perhaps the 18-135mm or the 18-200mm VR lens is the best options
