Nikon 17-55mm AF-S F2.8 Problem

Hi

I just wondered if anyone had any ideas or ever had a problem like this.

Using a Nikon 17-55mm AF-S F2.8, when I turn the camera on it loses all power. Turning off and on doesn't get it back, and the only way to get it back is to remove the lens and battery, and re insert the battery. As soon as you re-attach the lens and turn on it does the same.

Its the lens thats the problem as I've tried other lenses on the body and they are fine, and the problem occurs on other bodies if I attach the 17-55.

I've no idea but knowing what body may help someone in the know?
 
Never heard of or experience such problem. How old is the lens - is there any guarantee? Otherwise it might be worth sending it off but it sounds like there could be a big bill attached.
 
what body are you using it on ...have you tried it on any other body??
 
Yes, I've tried it on a couple of bodies. D200 and D70s.
