Hi.
So I have not owned this lens very long. Bought second hand from eBay. Attached to my D800.

Maybe an easy answer. Should this lens be tack sharp when magnified into photo? Viewed wide looks fine, but zoomed into the picture a little and doesn't seem that great in sharpness.
With this being a specialized superwide lens, wondered if perhaps it was just the way it was? I had owned the 24-70 before, and that was super sharp when magnified on taken photo.

I am still happy with this lens, but wondered if I should be looking/hoping for more? Anyone help please? I am a novice, so could be user error :/

The D800 has a feature called AF-FINE TUNE.
You can learn all about it in the instruction manual.
Every lens SHOULD be fine tuned to all bodies.

Hi. Yes I have played about with it before. But found it difficult to get right. Would it be that? So are you saying it should be sharp when zoomed into inspect? As I said wide looks fine...just when I get a close look, doesn't seem that sharp.

Paul, you really need to post a sample or two along with the settings used to take the shots. A "lack of sharpness" can have multiple causes, some can be within the lens itself but many others come from a variety of different user errors. Without seeing samples no one can tell you which it might be or how to fix it.

Ok Alastair. I'll try and do this. Wasn't sure if that was allowed as I'm a new member. Will do this later. Thank you

Have you tried focussing manually in Live View at the problem focal lengths? Then on a tripod with mirror lock up and a remote to remove all possibilites of it being camera shake etc.

Hi all. Thanks for all replies. Received some in depth help from a kind member. So will put that into place before wasting any of your valuable time further. This could be user error. So will see if it's something I'm doing wrong. Thanks again for all help. Especially the member who contacted me directly. Best wishes

This being a public forum, it might be helpful if you could share the advice you were given. You won't be the only person to have this question, and by posting the answers here you'd be helping others.

Of course I'm happy to pass on. But I have as yet discovered if the info is the fault of how I'm viewing. Meaning the problem I thought was there, may just be my lack of my understanding, and never a problem to begin with.
