Nikon 105mm Macro Vs Tamron 90mm Macro (Latest version)

Any reason for not looking at the sigma 105 macro ?

Nikkor 105 is the best 105 Nikkor

To be honest, I had a Sigma 180 Macro a fabulous lens until a firmware upgrade on my D810 which rendered the lens U/S.....the 180 Sigma was sold in favour of the latest Nikkor...

The Tamron and Sigma 105mm are both sharper than the Nikon, the Sigma has very variable build quality but you can't beat its price.

I always liked the results I got from the Nikon but it has really horrific CA.

The “Nikkor” without a doubt.

George.

What defines ‘best’ there isn’t a macro lens made that isn't razer sharp so look what else in a lens interests you?

I have a lot of love for my Tamron 90mm - it is not the newest version but it has served me very well. Tbh I have never heard a bad thing said about either of the lenses you have mentioned. I reckon this is one of those 'just pick one' gut instinct choices as you're going to get various people giving you different answers because everyone is happy with the purchase they made. Which means it doesn't really matter which one you pick...

I have had the Nikon 105vr and an older Tamron 90mm. Both where excellent if manually focused. The Tamron could back focus if using a.f but was never an issue really as with macro your going to likely be using manual focus.

Theres a few new macro lens about at the moment, one does 2-1 macro (manual focus) might be worth checking up to see if any of those may be a better bet for your type of maco.
Personally I love the tamon, cracking lens, but I've not compared it to the nikon..
